Abstract
Generally tourism involves ideas of movement from one place to another and has the same characteristics as traveling. The development of transportation technology and the improvement in political, economic and social situations has put tourism (travel for pleasure) within the reach of many people.
A hotel is a home away from home. It is the place where tourists stops to be the traveler and becomes the guest. To a greater or lesser extent the facilities of the hotel may also serve the local population but the primary function of a hotel is to accommodate those away from home and supply them with their basic needs and meet their expectation.
Accommodation for travelers may be viewed in two ways; the traveler who left his home requires accommodation upon reaching his destination and other facilities when he breaks his journey in between. Inns were perhaps the first such accommodation units which catered to the needs of travelers in early times. Inn keeping is an ancient profession. In ancient times and during the Roman Empire many such inns were established as ventures started by husband and wife teams who provided large halls for travelers to make their own bed and sleep in. They also provide food, drink and entertainment to weary travelers
