Abstract
The delivery of packet to a host or a router requires two levels of addressing: logical and physical. We should be able to map a logical address to its physical address and vice versa. These can be done using static and or dynamic mapping. Static mapping creates a table that associates a logical address with a physical address. This mapping is stored in each machine on the network. This has certain limitation because physical address can change. In case of dynamic mapping each time a machine knows one of the two addresses, it can use a protocol to find the other one. The protocol to find the mapping from logical address to physical address is "Address resolution protocol". This paper attempts to bring forth the problems with the protocol and various tools available in the market for creating the problems like arp spoofing and the solution tool available in the market.
