Abstract
electrical drives are very complex systems which makes the study difficult when detailed analysis is required along with their global behavior. With the help of advanced software tools, modeling drive system following a modular approach has become much easier. This paper presents a methodology with the use of Matlab/Simulink environment in which the main parts of an electrical drive are modeled as interlinked functional blocks. The complete drive system (from supply to mechanical load) is analyzed as a set of independent but integrated modules. Then fuzzy logic is applied to the system for motor speed control, which represents a very practical class of engineering problems.
