There is no doubt a thin line between the concepts of feminism and gender sensitivity in reporting. Sometimes these two concepts are interchanged. It is our view, however, that there is a significant difference between these two concepts. This report aims to clarify this difference particularly with regard to reporting.
[...] Gender Sensitivity in Reporting Gender sensitivity is a relatively new term which refers to bias-free language and reporting. It also involves unprejudiced revelation of facts, without leaving out details so that the readers get an objective and as complete a report as possible. It also encompasses the ‘third’ sex, and using politically correct or inoffensive terms for all genders, and not only women. The UNESCO came out with a handbook in 2004 to address gender sensitivity in reporting conflict. The handbook stated that gender- awareness and conflict-sensitivity are the building blocks of reliable, professional journalism - not optional extras (Lloyd & Howard, 2004). [...]
