Abstract
Methanogenesis, the biological production of methane, plays a pivotal role in the global carbon cycle and contributes significantly to global warming. The majority of methane in nature is derived from acetate. The observation that methanosarcina involved in methane production are generally Thermophillus. A number of proteins involved in the metabolic pathway of methane production, one of them which is taken under consideration in this work is an enzyme acetate kinase. Thermo stability is directly proportional to the methanogenesis. Secondly as indicated by CLUSTAL W, M. acetivorans c2a is phylogenetically very closely related to methanosarcina thermophilla which is another widely studied thermophillic methanogen, Since the acetate kinase of methanosarcina acetavorans c2a is yet to be structured, we have generated a homology model of acetate kinase by using the Swiss-Model Server. The protein's conservity has been verified by performing multiple alignments using ClustalW2. The model assessment was further checked for its correctness by PROCHECK.
