Abstract
This paper presents the techniques required for modeling the central data warehouse (CDW). It promotes end-user requirements driven data warehouse development process, consisting of sub-projects which develop departmental warehouses (data marts) that can be made to fit within a corporate data warehousing environment. This is the essence of the evolutionary development approach. It describes how the modeling of a data warehouse database can be done. It deals with temporal modeling and how an existing source data model can be transformed into a continuous history data model. Temporal modeling and design, is not exclusive to CDW modeling. If you would like to make a (complex) data mart which requires a continuous history data model, you will use the temporal modeling techniques presented here, during the data mart data modeling phase.
