Abstract
women in India contribute nearly 50 % of the total population. So, whether engaged in gainful employment or working mainly as housewives they are an important constituent of the human resource, so closely linked to national development. Globally gender equality and women empowerment have been recognized as the vital component to achieve overall development. women empowerment is a global issue and is discussed all over the world. If the women are empowered, there will be stability in the society and achievement in all aspects of development including education, health care, eradicating of poverty and slow population growth, thus leading to enhanced human resource development. empowerment equips women to be socially knowledgeable economically independent, personally reliant and politically participatory. To help women to come in the mainstream many financial institutions are motivating women to utilize the finance and start their enterprise, educate their children or pay off old debts etc.
