People of the Fur Trade

  1. Introduction
  2. Journal entries
  3. Conclusion

Describe this journey by sea. Some things to think about are- What was it like? How long did it last? Were there any problems? Who else was on the ship? What did you do to pass the time? You finally arrive in Quebec. We embark on the journey to New France. I am accompanied by other traders. We leave France and we embark in an adventure full of challenges. The first of these challenges is actually getting to the colony. Our living conditions are not exactly ideal, they extremely unhygienic, but we take our own food and we try to make the best for the long journey that we have along the way. We travel for months across the ocean experiencing storms and other problems. During the journey, we sing songs while we work. It helps us to take our minds off the extenuating activity that our long and exhausting journey entrails. We finally arrive to New France. After so many months of journey and hardships, we finally here.

We have to carry so much fur. We are so tired. Members of the crew told us of the deaths of their former colleagues while they were carrying cargo and doing the portage. [...]
