Abstract

In pervasive computing environment users can access services, run programs, utilize resources and harvest computer power anytime and anywhere. routing in wireless ad hoc networks are vulnerable to traffic analysis, spoofing and denial of service attacks due to open wireless medium communications. Anonymity mechanisms in ad hoc networks are critical security measures used to mitigate these problems by concealing identification information, such as those of nodes, links, traffic flows, paths and network topology information from harmful attackers. Privacy and anonymity are critical security issues to many large-scale MANET applications such as military communication networks. When the size of the network scales up, the routing overhead incurred by existing flat anonymous routing protocol increases fast as the number of public key operations increases. This results in deteriorated routing and data communication performance. Ad hoc routing protocols with the provisions for anonymity both protect the privacy of nodes and also restrict the collection of network information by malicious nodes. Until recently, quite a number of anonymous routing protocols have been proposed. Many of them however do not make allowance for authentication. Thus, vulnerabilities such as modifications to packet data and denial of service attacks can be more easily exploited. Key Words: pervasive computing, anonymous routing protocol, Privacy, Authentication
