The organization of tourism in France

Tourism activity in France has always struggled to find its place. It is not yet fully recognized in this sector, but is very dynamic economically with corporate legitimacy. In fact, according to the government, the tourism ministry is linked to the Secretary of State who is attached to a department. The first piece of legislation on the organization of Tourism was recorded in 1910 but it was not until 1974 that the decree defined the powers of a Minister of Tourism giving it a mission: "to promote and guide the activities of all orders contribute to the expansion of French tourism and tourism development. It coordinates, in this area, action under the jurisdiction of other departments "(P. Py, Law of Tourism, 1991). When a tourist office is created, there is a mandatory competence bloc: reception, information, advocacy, and coordination of local tourism. The law of December 23, 1992 established the jurisdiction of local tourism and plans with regard to municipalities and public establishments of inter-communal cooperation (EPCI). The community is free to determine the status and organization of its tourist office. The texts do not prohibit a community and can move from delegated management to integrated management or vice versa at any time.
